This 30-minute podcast introduces A Mirror for Americans: What the East Asian Experience Tells Us about Teaching Students Who Excel.  Like the book, this podcast discusses the preschool and primary years of schooling in China and Japan.

How East Asian children are taught at school is half of the explanation for why, since the late 1960s, their performance on the international comparative tests has always been superior to that of their American peers.  The other half of the explanation concerns the raising of those students in their homes.  This is covered in Grove’s sister podcast, available at the podcast page of Grove’s book, The Drive to Learn.

The podcast below was developed for the International Academy of Intercultural Research, a worldwide association of intercultural scholars, of which Cornelius Grove became a Charter Member when IAIR was founded in 1997.
